Installing Windows CWU License Server
- Close all programs
- If they have a prior version of Client Write-Up installed, remove it.
Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
Note: Prior to 4.62.02 look for WinCWU. Version 4.62.02 or later look for Software from PC Software Accounting, Inc.
- Once you have removed the prior version, insert the CD-ROM into the computer
- Cancel the installation
- Click on My Computer and find the CD-ROM.
- Right Click on the CD-ROM and select Explore
- Click on the License Server folder to access its contents and then click on the setup.exe located in the folder. This will start the installation process, which is no different then the standard installation.
Note: If you start the install by just popping in the CD-ROM this will install the Stand Alone version and setting the Enviorment Variables or Autoexec.bat will do nothing and the system will look on the local driver for the license. Which cause the message "You have ## or 60 days left" will keep popping up.
- Select the directory where you want the program to install to
- Select what you want to install and continue on
Client Write-Up and Sample Data
Computer Checkbook and Sample Data
Both Systems or Custom Installation
Note: A Custom installation allows you to install both the Client Write-Up and Computer Checkbook at one time. You can also select if you want the Sample Data installed or not.
- The system will install your selection(s) unless the version of the Windows Installer they have is to old. A window will pop up informing you of this and Windows will abort the installation. If this is the case install the newer version of the Windows Installer contained on the CD-ROM (InstMsi.exe) and restart the installation.
- Issue them a Network Site License * on the Server.
- Repeat the installation on all workstations.
* IMPORTANT When issuing a Network Site License make sure you enable Network License in Box 3.
Post Installation Steps
Windows 95, 98 and ME
- Just on the Server insert wckserve.exe in the startup group, so the system will share the license.
- On the Workstations run sysedit and make sure the following lines are in Autoexec.bat.
Set wincwu=F:\pcsw\wincwu.exe
Set ckserve=C:\pcsw;
Note: Make sure you use the correct network driver letter in the first line.
Windows 2000, NT and XP
- Just on the server run setupex.exe just 1 time. It wont appear to have done anything because the program is so quick.
Note:The file cks.exe has to be in the PCSW folder prior to running setupex.exe. If need be copy the file from the CD-ROM.
WARNING: NEVER, NEVER, NEVER run cks.exe manually. Running it manually will put files in the wrong folders on the computer and the program will not work until you remove the files and run setupexe.exe instead. Simply running setupex.exe without removing the files will not work. You must remove the files first.
Utilities Folder -> NT or NTStealth Folder -> CKS.EXE
Note:If the server is not running Windows 2000 or NT but the workstations are, you will need to run setupx.exe on each 2000 and NT workstation.
- Set WINCWU Environment Variable on the workstations
Windows 2000
My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Environment Variables Button -> WinCWU
WINCWU = F:\PCSW\WINCWU.EXE
Ckserve = C:\pcsw;
Change the drive letter to the network drive letter.
NT
My Computer -> Properties -> Environment -> WinCWU
WINCWU = F:\PCSW\WINCWU.EXE
Ckserve = C:\pcsw;
Change the drive letter to the network drive letter.
XP
Start -> My Computer -> View System Information -> Advanced -> Environment Variables Button -> WinCWU
WINCWU = F:\PCSW\WINCWU.EXE
Ckserve = C:\pcsw;
Change the drive letter to the network drive letter.
- If still having problems:
- Check to make sure that they have a file call WinCwu.tb2 in the PCSW directory on the Server. This file holds the list of Users currently using the program. If our program has loaded successfully then this file should exist.
Note: If the system is complaining about the maximum number of users has been exceeded, but no one is else is in the system. Then the WinCwu.tb2 file is corrupted and must be deleted. The system will then generate a new file.
If this file can't be found then the system hasn't gotten to the point where our program is trying to load, so go to the next step.
- Reissue them a Network Site License with the proper number of licenses. Remember to enable the Network License Check Box in Step 3 on the SKW program screen.
If a Site License was issued without checking this box then no matter what the License Count was set to, only the server will work. The Workstations will all ask for a Site License no matter what you do.
If this doesn't help check the WinCwu.ckn file on the server to see what is happening.
- Run ckconfig.exe.
WINNT Folder -> ckconfig.exe
Make sure:
- There is an C:\PCSW entry (The entry must have a local drive in the path)
- That there is only one PCSW entry
To add an entry:
- Click on Add
- Look In the local PCSW folder
- Click on wincwu.exe
- If nothing seems to work then uninstall and reinstall making sure you install from the License Server folder on the CD-ROM. Most likely they installed the Stand Alone version.
