Encountering Strange Messages While Installing

We have encountered some strange problems and messages while installing our program. Listed below are some of the various problems we have encountered.
Temporary Files
It seems the new Windows Installer we use does not like it if there are files in the \Windows\Temp directory. It wants to execute the "exe" and "com" files it finds there and use the "ini" file finds there. To solve the problem follow the steps below the clear out the TEMP directory.
- Right click on Start
- Click on Explore
- On the left hand side of the Explore Screen look for the TEMP folder located in the Windows folder.
- Double click on it to access its contains
- Make sure you are in the TEMP Folder.
- Click on EDIT on the top of the Screen
- Click on Select All
- Everything in the directory should be highlighted now.
- Click on FILE on the top of the screen
- Click on Delete
- If it complains about a file being a program. Delete it anyway.
- Once all the files are gone try installing our software.
Anti Virus Software
Nortons
- System Hangs while checking for License - Disable Nortons and try it again. You may have to remove the system and reinstall it with Norton's disabled.
Once the system is installed and licensed you can turn Norton's back on.
McAfee
- System Hangs while checking for License - Disable McAfee's and try it again. You may have to remove the system and reinstall it with McAfee's disabled.
Once the system is installed and licensed you can turn McAfee's back on.
- There is a problem with the 4.0.70 and 4.1.40 Search Engines when used with 4229 DAT Files. It may mark files as having the W32/Insane.dam virus when the files are fine. You will need to update to the 4.1.60 Search Engine to get around this problem.
- Goto www.mcafee.com
- Click on Virus Information along the top of screen
- In the Virus Search section, which is located on the right hand side of the screen
- Select Containing in the top box
- Type in insane.dam in the bottom box
- Click Search
- An article telling you about the W32/Insane.dam virus will appear.
- Click on Update the scan engine within the article
- Arrow down to the Engine Updates section.
- Click on SuperDat File for v4x (Intel Engine Only) within the table.
- Select Save to File and give it a location.
- Once the download is complete get out of everything and execute the download file. (4160eng.exe)
Note: The 4160 Engine Hotfix is and upgrade to the 4.1.60 search engine. So you will need have already loaded the 4.1.60 search engine before trying to load this update. Which you may to may not what to install. This is a Zip file so you will need WinZip or some other zip program to install the update.
To check the version start anti-virus software and then goto Help -> Abort. The resulting window will list the Serach Engine and DAT File the software is using.
