Error 1904: Module {name} failed to register - If you get this message while installing the program there is a damaged file on the computer that needs to be replaced before we can install our software. Cancel out of the installation. They will either need their Windows CD or the "CAB" files need to be located on the hard drive.
NOTE: This can also be caused by the person trying to install the program to a network drive (ie: F:, G:, etc) instead to the local hard drive.
Ask if they have installed Tax Works tax program. This program damages a couple of files. You can check to see if this is the problem by:
- Click on Start
- Click on Programs
- Click on Accessories
- System Tools
- System Information
- You will get the following message:
Msvcirt.dll file is linked to missing export msvcrt.dll: ??_u@yapaxi@z
- Get back to the desktop
To fix the files (Q296551)
- Make sure our programs has been uninstalled
- Make them find their Windows CD-ROM.
- Click on Start
- Click on Run
- Type in SFC and click Start
- The System File Checker Utility will come up.
- Take the second option - Extract one file from installation disk.
- Type in Msvcrt.dll and click Start
- Make the Restore from box points to the Windows CD-ROM (ie: D:\WIN98)
- The system will know where to restore them to (ie: C:\Windows\System)
- Click Ok
- Click Skip to bypass saving a copy of the old file.
- You should get the message:
The file has been successfully extracted
- It will say you need to reboot but say NO. You need to restore the
other file first.
- You should be back at the SFC screen.
- Type in Msvcirt.dll and click Start
- Follow steps 9-15
- Close everything and remove the Windows CD-ROM
- Reboot the computer and install our software.
