Problems Activating a Client
- You get a message saying A field is missing so please run Version Control on this client when bringing up the Activate Client Screen.
or
The client list is empty or wrong and running Rebuild Client List doesn't help (The system.mdb file is the only file listed on rebuild list).
Check the Blankdir.mdb file. It could be output of date (it was changed around version 6.28.01) or it is corrupted. Either case can cause this problem.
- Client is not showing on the Activate List but is listed in the data directory. The file was found using either "Search" or "Explore".
- Verify that the system is pointed to the correct Default Data
Directory.
Setup -> System -> Default Data Directory
- Rebuild the client list and see if the client shows up.
Utlilities -> Rebuild File List
- Check the File Attributes and make sure that it is not set to
Read-Only. If it is change it and if need be run Rebuild File
List.
- Run Repair Data and see it the client is listed, if so select the
client and repair the data.
Utilities -> Repair Data
Note: I had one instance were the person said they already ran Rebuild File List and it didn't help. I finally solved it by deleting CdirList.mdb off the network drive and having the system reconstruct it.
- You get Error 3024: Could Not Find File when you click OK to active a client.
This means the client file no longer exists, has incorrect permissions or is corrupted. Click Close and run Utitiltes -> Rebuild File List and see if the client is listed.
If not then check to make sure the file exists and the permissions are correct. If everything looks good then run Repair Data on the client.
- If you get a message saying WinCWU/WinCCB has caused an illegal options and will be shutdown when trying to bring up the Activate Client Screen you may have a corrupted EXE or database(s).
- Exit out of the program
- Copy on a new EXE
- Bring the system back up and try Activating a client.
If this works STOP otherwise try the following steps.
- Start -> Run -> Command
- Change directory to where the data is stored (ie: C:\PCSW, F:\PCSW, etc)
- Type in DIR *.LDB
- Look at the resulting list for any client number not in the correct
order.
D100.ldb
D200.ldb
D265.ldb
D158.ldb <-- Bad database
- Copy the data to another location (ie: C:\Hold)
- Delete the bad database
- Bring the system back up and try Activating a client.
Note: You may have more then (1) corrupted database. So keep doing
these steps until you can get the Activate Client Screen to come
up.
