Updating Your Windows Installer
If you get the following Windows Installer message while trying to install, follow the instructions listed below to update your installer.
This installation package cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service.You must install a Windows service pack that contains a newer version of the Windows Installer service.
If you get this message while installing cancel out of the installation. Leave the CD-ROM in the drive and follow the steps below to install an updated Windows Installer.
- Close all open programs
- Click Start on the Windows Task Bar.
- Click on Run.
- Browse to the CD-ROM drive.
- Double click on the Utilities folder to access its contains.
- Double click on the Service Packs folder to access its contains.
- Double click on the Windows Installer folder to access its contains.
- Double click on the folder corresponding to the version of Windows you are running.
Win200 and WinNT if running either Windows 2000 to Windows NT.
Win9x and WinME if running Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows ME.
- Double click on the file labeled instmsi.exe. This will install the updated Windows Installer.
- When the update process is finished exit back to the Windows Desktop.
- Restart the installation.
